What is Google Lens and What can Google Lens do?

Google Lens is a mobile application for Android and iOS, developed by Google. This app uses the camera of the device to identify the object and shows the information and relevant search results for the object.

This technology was first introduced on October 4, 2017, in app previews pre-installed on the Google Pixel 2. Google officially released Google Lens on March 5, 2018, for the non-Pixel phones, integrated with Google Photos. And on March 15, 2018, support for the Google Lens in the iOS version of Google Photos was made.

What can Google Lens do?

The Google Lens is similar to Samsung’s Bixby Vision, which was first available on the Samsung Galaxy S8.

You can do many more things with the help of Google Lens, for example, you open the Google Lens and point the camera to a WiFi label with the network name and password, your device will automatically connect to the WiFi network which was scanned by Google Lens.

If you scan the image of a building, hotel, or tower, etc., Google Lens will give you the information about the place you scanned and it will also show the search results for that place.

If you open Google Lens and point the camera to a book, it will show the information about the author and book, and also show the public reviews on that books.

Similarly, if you point the camera to a painting in a museum, the Google Lens will show all the information about that painting.

If you have a business card of a person, and you scan it from Google Lens, it will show the information about the person’s business. If you open the Google Lens and point the camera to a flower, it will give you all the information about the flower.

In simple words, Google Lens has the capability to recognize the image, and text written on the image.

It is a new type of technology which enables your smartphone's camera to work really smart.
